Olympic Champion Gremaud wins World Cup season opener after finishing first in the qualification at the FIS Freeski World Cup Stubai

The Slopestyle World Cup season opener on the Stubai Glacier ended on Saturday without a final, as gusty winds forced the event to be cancelled. Mathilde Gremaud (SUI) secured the first victory of the new season thanks to her winning performance in Thursday’s qualification round.

Despite fresh snowfall and sunshine, the strong winds in the Snowpark Stubai Zoo made it impossible to ensure a safe and fair competition. Both the men’s qualification — planned to take place before the women’s event — and the final of the top eight women had to be cancelled. As a result, there is no ranking for the men.

Gremaud Claims Stubai Crown – Asselin and Karava on the Podium
Mathilde Gremaud (SUI) — Slopestyle Olympic champion and 2023 Stubai winner — delivered the top score of the day in Thursday’s qualification with a technically outstanding first run, clearly placing herself ahead of the field. The Swiss athlete impressively confirmed her status as a favourite for the season. “We had a really good qualification and an amazing atmosphere. Training with the guys beforehand was also great. Everyone was super motivated. I had some good runs. It was really cool to compete again and put down full runs. I’m happy and excited that the season is starting. On the jumps, I didn’t take big risks. I focused on variety with grabs and different rotations. On the rails, I gave it everything. I’m super happy I was able to put down a solid run”, said the 2025 Stubai winner.

Behind her was Canada’s Olivia Asselin (76.71), who achieved her best-ever result in Stubai, significantly improving on her ninth place from 2022. Finland’s young talent Anni Karava (68.07) claimed third place, earning her second World Cup podium after finishing second in Kreischberg, Austria, in January 2025.
While the Snowpark Stubai Zoo is occasionally more exposed to weather conditions due to its location, the remainder of the ski area currently offers excellent winterly conditions with fresh snow.
