From packed slopes to firn: Snow in the spring

After clear, cold nights, the snow surface may be firm in the morning. As sunlight increases, it softens as the day progresses. Under the right conditions, firn—the typical granular spring snow—forms.

When and where you’ll find these conditions depends, among other things, on temperature, nighttime frost, and sunlight. Therefore, adjust your daily plans and skiing style to the actual conditions.

Our snow report and weather information will help you prepare for your day on the slopes.
